The World Heath Organization (WHO) says 1 in 3 women are subjected to violence at the hands of their husbands, other men, or their country’s government. Many more suffer from a deprivation of essential human liberties such as education, basic health care, freedom of conscious and freedom movement. Societies that condone wife-beating, genital mutilation, disfigurement and murder reflect on all of us as a human beings. With your help, the Human Liberty Campaign seeks to provide direct support to groups taking action in these regions, among the victims and against the violators.
Groups like the Kagisano Society Women's Shelter (KSWS) whose members have been fighting violence against women in Botswana since 1998. KSWS is leading the effort to end gender-based violence by providing temporary shelter; counseling; community education and outreach, and advocacy.
